Wake Up Jamaica: Clifton Mount
Having a cup of Jamaican coffee is an experience; so much more than what meets the eye, and each “Wake Up Jamaica” episode is compelling as we get an insider’s view into how the magic is made.
It is very interesting to learn that Jamaica’s coffee farming began from the 1800s. At the Clifton Mount Estate, the art of farm to cup has been perfected as the company has a chain of coffee shops – Café Blue.
I approached my first cup of Blue Mountain coffee with very high expectations. This is because Jamaica has a storied coffee culture with coffee lovers around the world. Even before the first sip, the aroma of the roasted beans hits my sensory smell and I was captivated. Then I tasted it and my taste buds began to dance.
The flavour profile of the Blue Mountain coffee gave me a range of sensory experiences. If you are looking for a smooth, rich, clean balanced taste, with consistency of flavour and blend that you can drink black, then this coffee hits the jackpot. Its aroma is a blend of sweet florals and some hint of herbs with overtones of nuts.
You see Jamaica’s Blue Mountain Arabica coffee remains a sought-after premium brand and is one of the most expensive coffees in the world. Grown 4000 feet above sea level on several estates, Jamaicans will tell you that their world-class coffee maintains its strong flavourful notes as a result of being grown in the mist capped Blue and John Crow Mountain region.
Every cup tells another story and this experience is beautifully wrapped up in the “Wake Up Jamaica” video series. The specially-curated videos takes you on a journey along the Blue Mountain range to six coffee estates, where you learn about the island’s famed beans - how they are grown, roasted and brewed.
